Guatemala Journey Durhams go to Guatemalan source... By

News
(2/2/2010 - Sisters, OR) "It's all about the
altitude," Justin Durham, of Sisters Coffee Co., remarked after returning last
week from a coffee-buying adventure deep into the lofty mountains of Guatemala.

"When coffee grows at high altitude it ripens slower and creates better
bean density and gives a more consistent, cleaner cup. High altitude equals
high quality and it's something our customers have come to
expect."
..."It was an incredible trip," said Durham. "We flew into
Guatemala City and then took a five-hour van ride up into the Sierra de los
Cuchumatanes mountains via the legendary Pan-American Highway and across the
Continental Divide. Guatemala is extremely mountainous. It's a country the size
of Tennessee, but if flattened out would be bigger than Texas. Eli Pyke shot
some amazing documentary footage and interviews for us. He worked really
hard." See full

Coffee Company
Grew from Humble "Grounds" Sisters Coffee Company's 20th
Anniversary By Kimberly Bowker /
The Bulletin
(08/18/09 - Sisters, OR) The
aroma of roasted coffee permeates the interior of Sisters Coffee Co. as the
drone of chatting customers mixes with the sound of espresso machines. Winfield
Durham, 56, and his wife, Joy, 52, founded the coffee-roasting business 20
years ago in Sisters. It started in a little cabin on Hood Avenue where the
current building, which opened in 2005, now stands. We are a destination
and this is where people come to meet, Winfield Durham said about the
coffee shop. We wanted to make it a place where people could come and
collect their thoughts. Full article... |

 |

(by Joseph Duerrmeyer, Nugget News 8/28/07) ...Sisters Coffee Company is the largest of the local operations
and, for many, is an extension of home and office. Coffeenistas gather there
for meetings, to work, to savor a cup and to just relax. Sisters Coffee Company
is the only local company that follows the whole coffee making process through
locally. The only thing the business does not do is grow its own coffee beans.
"We are the only company that actually roasts coffee in Sisters. We have been
doing it since 1989. In fact, we are one of the oldest roasters in Central
Oregon," said Jared Durham, of Sisters Coffee Company... (See full pdf article

Press | Business of the Year Award | February 14, 2006
By Susan Springer, The Nugget News Correspondent
Jeff McDonald was named Citizen of the Year and
Winfield and Joy Durham’s Sisters Coffee Co. was honored as Business of
the Year at the annual Sisters Area Chamber of Commerce dinner on Thursday,
February 9. Chamber members met at Eagle Crest Resort for an
installation dinner to celebrate the Chamber’s 30th anniversary and to
honor those who have made a difference in the Sisters community. The
Business of the Year award winners were taken by surprise. Sisters Coffee Co.
owners Winfield and Joy Durham had not been to a Chamber dinner before, so they
joked they were glad they decided to come this time. Last June, the Durhams
moved their coffee business to a large, new lodge-style building on Hood
Avenue. See full PDF story here
