"We are very blessed to be able
to expand in these tough economic times and so thankful to have such loyal
customers," said Winfield Durham, who along with his wife Joy founded Sisters
Coffee Company in 1989. "When Joy and I started this business, many folks told
us we wouldn't make it through the winter. We give God all the glory and are
thankful for His provision. It's been a fun 20 years and we look forward to 20
more!"
The businesses will be owned and operated by local Subway owners,
Chris Griffin and David Burbidge of Bend, who approached Sisters Coffee Company
in February of 2008 about the innovative idea.
"We had an idea to join
two successful businesses and let each of their strengths compliment the
other," said Griffin, owner of six Subway Restaurant's in Central Oregon.
For the Durham Family, the idea of uniting their local company with a
national sandwich company was a bit surprising, but the potential was
obvious.
"We hadn't ever heard of a Subway/Coffee Shop before, but that just
went to prove the innovation on the part of Chris and David," said Justin
Durham, Director of Sales and Marketing for Sisters Coffee Company. After
getting to know them and how their family story was so similar to ours, to was
clear we should proceed."
The menu at the Bend locations will be almost
identical to the flagship store in Sisters. "We are making every effort to stay
true to the ideals, quality and overall feel the Durham's have built in over 20
years of business," said Burbidge. "When people walk in to our Bend locations
we want people have the same great experience as they do in Sisters. We want to
treat every customer like family."
Sisters Coffee also has an
"outpost" in Sisters Ray's Food Place & Grocery Store.
